Model & Prototype Information
Prototype: The RENFE class 1900/319 bicabin diesels were part of RENFE’s modernization plan to replace steam power with diesel and electric power. Ninety-three class 1900 bicabins, based on EMD’s G16 export unit, were built in Spain by Macosa from the mid-1960’s to 1973 under license from GM. They were used until the late 1980’s on freight and passenger trains. At that time, some were then rebuilt into the current 319.2 class.
