The
German BR 01 was the first German "Einheit" steam locomotive. In the
early 1920's the DRG started the Einheit program. The Einheit concept
was designed to cut costs on building locomotives because the idea was
to be able to use parts for a variety of locomotives. This meant parts
were interchangeable, which would reduce costs of maintenance and rebuilding
steam locomotives. The 01's were used to haul fast express trains of
the Deutsche Reichsbahn and Bundesbahn. With their two-meter high driving
wheels and long boiler, they were very elegant and fast. They developed
1980 Hp and reached a top speed of 130 Km/h.
Micro-Metakit will produce six versions of the BR 01. Each Micro-Metakit
BR 01 is handmade out of brass. They feature a brushless ironless "Faulhaber"
motor, full cab interior, functional boiler hatch with inner boiler
details. The BR 01 is a masterpiece and it features too many technical
and optical details to list. Only a total of 300 will be produced, so
some versions as little as only 20 will be made. These models are very
limited so reserve one today. We expect to take delivery sometime in
December 2001.
