Day 1, Friday October 06

Chicago-Frankfurt

We are leaving Chicago late in the afternoon via Lufthansa on our non-stop flight to Frankfurt. Cocktails and dinner will be served en route.

Day 2, Saturday, October 07

Frankfurt-Göppingen

Breakfast will be served one hour before landing. After checking through immigration and customs we will board a train to Göppingen. After a 2-hour ride we will arrive in Göppingen and check into the hotel. The afternoon is then free for you to enjoy your own activities. We will meet for dinner at 7:30 and conclude the evening.

Day 3, Sunday, October 08

Göppingen-Esslingen

We are visiting one of the most breathtaking cities in the Stuttgart region. Esslingen is known for its wine and we will hike through the vineyards while being educated in the making of German wines. Next we will have coffee and cake in the castle. Afterward we will take a walk through the city itself. Esslingen has one of the best preserved medieval cores in Wurttemberg and the oldest row of half-timbered houses in Germany. It will be a great experience to walk the old cobbled alleys and relive the history around them.

Dinner will be in a historic wine cellar. Afterwards we are returning back to our hotel in Göppingen.

Day 4, Monday, October 09

Today we board our bus to go to the Porsche factory. It is very impressive to see how a Porsche is constructed and how everything is perfectly timed. A factory tour guide, who can answer all your questions, will accompany us.

We will have lunch in a special local restaurant and visit the streetcar museum and the Neoplan museum.

Day 5, Tuesday, October 10

Göppingen

The bus will bring us to the Märklin factory. We will witness how the locomotive bodies are created in the molds, and how they are painted & decorated. A test run for every locomotive is performed before they are packed up. After all the excitement we will have lunch at the Park Restaurant. We then head over to the Märklin Museum. This is for the true Marklin enthusiast - you can see precious items from the late 1870’s to the present. Luckily all the items, which were stolen in January 2005, are back.

Day 6, Wednesday, October 11

Göppingen-Freiburg

We are visiting Freiburg, one of the most beautiful towns in southern Germany. After the sightseeing we board a train to the Valley of Hell. In 1887 the "Höllentalbahn" (train route) parallel to the road was opened, which connects "Freiburg" with "Donaueschingen". It is quite famous because it has to overcome a gradient of 1: 18, covering a difference of 441 m in height between "Hinterzarten" and "Himmelreich". This part of the line is one of the most interesting ones in Germany. It leads through 9 tunnels and numerous viaducts. The Ravenna viaduct, which is 222m long and 42 m high, is the most imposing construction of all viaducts.

Coffee break will be in Titisee and we conclude the day by returning to Göppingen.

Day 7, Thursday, October 12

Göppingen-Berlin

We will board a regional train to Stuttgart and switch over to an ICE to travel to Berlin. We have to leave early in the morning because it will take us over 6 hours to get there.  After checking into our hotel you have the rest of the day for your own activities. We are close to the main shopping district so you can buy all your souvenirs there. You are also free to visit one of the 170 museums in town or visit Berlins new main station which is one of the largest in the world.  Over 300 thousand travelers come and go from this incredible new station.

Day 8, Friday, October 13

Berlin

First we are visiting Loxx Miniature World. It is not as big as Hamburg’s Miniature Wonderland but it is still very impressive. You can see many little scenes that you wouldn’t find in Hamburg like a functional airport. The length of time that we attend the layout depends on the group, but we will eventually head over to the transportation museum. This museum is one of the best for transportation in Germany.

Day 9, Saturday October 14

Berlin

We will spend this day sightseeing. We will board a bus, which will bring us to all the interesting sites in Berlin. We will also experience a completely new method of sightseeing - by boat. Did you know that Berlin has more bridges than Venice?

Day 10, Sunday October 15

Berlin-Chicago

Like all good things, this tour will come to an end today. Breakfast will be served early with hotel check out to follow. We will travel to the Berlin Airport and fly back via Frankfurt or Munich.

Welcome Home!
