Developed by the SNCF’s Autorail Design Division (DEA), the RGP II (Rames à Grand Parcours bimoteur) were long-distance diesel multiple units powered by two Renault type 517 engines delivering 300 hp at 1,500 rpm — the same engines used in the X 2400 and X 3800 autorails.Built between 1954 and 1955 in just 20 units, each RGP II consisted of a motor car (X 2700) and a driving trailer (XR 7700), forming a permanently coupled set in regular service.The RGP II could be coupled with other RGP I or RGP II sets, and were originally delivered in a distinctive green and cream livery, unlike the more common red and cream of other SNCF railcars.

- Standard NEM 352 mechanisms with NEM 355 coupler pockets
- Arnold magnetic couplers for all RGP II versions
- Next-18 digital interface (NEM 662) in both motor and trailer cars
- Sound versions (HN2635S/36S/37S) factory-equipped with DCC sound decoders and “sugar cube” speakers for rich audio performance
- All separately applied details pre-installed, including decorative front coupling and brake pipes
- Trailer’s cab-end is designed to accept a bellows gangway for double unit operation or coupling to another RGP set
