After RENFE introduced UIC numbering in 1971, the ten locomotives of the 2000T series were designated 352-001 to 352-010, with the old number retained on the front. Each locomotive is equipped with two turbocharged Maybach MD 650 diesel engines, each producing 1,200 hp, whose cooling is automatically regulated via side louvers and which have electric preheating systems. Fuel is supplied via three interconnected tanks with a total capacity of 1,200 liters. The drive system consists of flexible couplings, cardan shafts, and a hydraulic Mekydro K-104 transmission with automatic gear changes at 30, 45, and 75 km/h. Power for air conditioning, lighting, and auxiliary systems is provided by two engine-generator sets with Daimler-Benz six-cylinder engines and three-phase generators. The locomotives have a single aerodynamic cab on the left side, a Scharfenberg coupler at the rear for Talgo trains, and only an emergency and shunting coupler at the front. Between 1985 and 1986, the windscreens were replaced for safety reasons, and in 1986 some locomotives received an increased top speed of 160 km/h.
