RENFE Class 591.400 "Ferrobus" 2-car diesel multiple unit
silver with UIC marking
Following the success of the first Ferrobús, RENFE procured further technically and operationally improved trains from 1966 onwards. These now consisted of four-car trains with two power cars at the ends and two intermediate cars, which increased performance and capacity. Improvements such as pneumatic doors were also introduced. A total of 34 trains were built, numbered FER/FRI 401–468, with each half-unit counted separately.
From 1967, another series followed with a modified configuration of two power cars, totaling 27 trains (FER 469–522) with a total power output of 600 hp.
