The BRAWA 40994 faithfully reproduces 01 008, one of the original ten pre-series Class 01 locomotives delivered to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1926. These pioneering locomotives served as the proving ground for Germany's future standard express locomotive program and featured numerous design differences from the later production BR 01s, including the distinctive extended cab and unique frame construction. As one of the earliest examples of Germany's famous Pacific-type express locomotives, 01 008 occupies a special place in railway history.

Prototype Information
The first ten BR 01 locomotives were built as evaluation locomotives for the Deutsche Reichsbahn's ambitious standardization program. With their powerful Pacific wheel arrangement and 20-ton axle load, they represented a major advancement in German express locomotive design. Extensive testing of these early locomotives ultimately led to the production of more than 230 Class 01 engines, which became the flagship express locomotives of Germany for decades.
