With their EG 1, the Bayerische Staatsbahn paved the way for the common electric locomotives of today with two bogies without running axles, but at first this design was not copied. The DRG only picked up on this idea in the 1930s and with the E 44 created one of the most successful pre-war designs of electric locomotives.
