Information about the model
Derived from the BTms55, designed for four pa containers, SEAG built two prototypes of the BTmms58 in 1958. One was made of light alloy and the other of ST 52 steel. The resulting wagon could now be loaded with five pa containers. This increased the specific load weight, allowing carriers to pay lower freight rates. The steel prototype proved successful and was further developed for series production, which began in 1960. A total of 2,100 BTmms58 wagons were built over the following six years. For easier handling and loading, each wagon had a gangway platform at one end, located above the buffers, or a handbrake platform mounted in front of the frame. The German Federal Railway (DB) replaced the 35-ton buffers with 59-ton high-performance buffers, which were also used from the outset on the wagons built from 1964 onwards. From the late 1970s, a large proportion of the vehicles were prepared for the installation of the AK69e automatic center buffer coupler, but this was ultimately not implemented. Special pa-type containers were developed from 1955 onwards for transporting beer. These were mostly used as private containers by individual breweries and were accordingly branded with their respective advertising. The German Federal Railway (Deutsche Bundesbahn) also maintained its own containers, which it also used for other liquid foodstuffs. In total, approximately 200 containers of types Ddikr621-624, with a capacity of 5 m³, were produced by 1972. The use of these beer containers on the railways ended in the late 1980s. However, some breweries still use them today, for example, for large events.
