    Information about the model

With the slogan "Every hour, every class," the German Federal Railway (DB) promoted its InterCity '79 program. To offer every class every hour, however, suitable second-class passenger cars with a 200 km/h (124 mph) rating first had to be available. This was achieved by foregoing new developments and instead modifying existing orders of the Bm 234 type or converting already completed cars. Instead of the block brakes and wheelsets of type 094 or 096, the cars now received disc and magnetic track brakes as well as wheelsets of type 093. In addition, the damping of the bogie frames was modified and large yaw dampers were added to the sides. The new type designation was now Bm 235. Over three years, 721 Bm 235 cars were built, which were used in InterCity service from 1979 onwards in an ocean blue and beige livery. Their use in Intercity (IC) services and as supplementary carriages in InterRegio services, which began in the 1990s, only ended in the 2000s. During this time, the carriages were painted in the typical IC product colors and later in light gray and traffic red. Some carriages were even repainted in the current ICE design.
