Information about the model
"IC 2" is the name given to the TWINDEXX-Vario® trains that have been in service with DB Fernverkehr (DB Long-Distance) since the timetable change on December 13, 2015. Bombardier Transportation received its first order in 2010 for 27 five-car double-decker trains, coupled with Class 146.5 locomotives, as part of a previously concluded framework agreement with DB AG for a total of 800 double-decker carriages. A further 17 trains were ordered in March 2015. The TWINDEXX-Vario® is a further development of the proven double-decker platform from Görlitz. The trains have a maximum speed of 160 km/h. In DB Fernverkehr's long-distance transport concept, the IC 2 trains will gradually replace all previous IC trains. The first routes to be operated after the timetable change were Leipzig – Norddeich Mole, Dresden – Cologne, and Koblenz – Norddeich Mole.
