Prototype Information
In the late 1950s, the Deutsche Bundesbahn modernized fifty Class 01 locomotives with newly designed high-performance boilers that significantly improved efficiency and steam production. These rebuilt locomotives became known as the Class 001 series and remained among Germany's premier express steam locomotives until the end of regular steam operations.
Locomotive 001 180-9 survived the retirement of steam and was preserved for future generations. Today it remains one of Germany's most recognizable operational steam locomotives, regularly appearing on enthusiast excursions, railway festivals, and special heritage trains across the country.
The BRAWA 70070 is an outstanding addition to any German steam collection, offering exceptional detailing, synchronized sound and smoke effects, illuminated running gear, and smooth operating performance. Whether displayed in a museum train consist or pulling a special excursion train, this model perfectly captures the grandeur of one of Germany's most famous preserved express locomotives.
