LIMITED ERA II DRG SET! GET YOUR WHILE THEY LAST!
Prototype: In the 1930's, it was intended that, following the electrification of the route Berlin-Munich, an express service would be introduced between the two cities. Therefore locomotives were needed which would give high speed running through the flat country of the northern part, and a high traction power for the mountainous part of the route in the south. Based on the very successful E18, the class E19 was developed to have a top speed capability of 180km/h in order to fulfill these requirements. So as to set these locos apart as high-speed locos, they were delivered in a wine red color scheme. However because of the Second World War, the planned high-speed link between Berlin and Munich did not come to fruition. The engines of the class E19 were therefore rescheduled into normal express service. But of course, even here they could prove their worth because of their enormous power.
