Cisalpino AG, founded in 1993, was a railway company based in Muri near Bern. It was a joint venture between SBB and Trenitalia. Cisalpino, abbreviated CIS, was also the name of the company and the trains it operated.
For some connections between Switzerland and Italy, the company used conventional locomotive-hauled trains. These were mainly made up of EuroCity open-plan carriages from the SBB, as well as other types of carriages from the FS. Part of it received a Cisalpino paint job.
