After the end of the Second World War, there were 386 Class 86 machines on West German territory. Most of them could be repaired, so that in 1952 the DB had 378 locomotives of this series. In addition to the classic branch line trains, the area of responsibility also regularly included the transport of express trains and shunting in freight stations.
