With the introduction of the DB to 1 January 1968, the powerheads of the VT 11.5 to the 601 BR were renumbered, the Deutsche Bundesbahn established the Intercity system than an urban rapid transport system with 1st-class vehicles in the two-hourly to the intermediate cars to the BR 901.1971.
