In addition to the 103 series, the 112 series in beige-red paintwork was certainly one of the most elegant appearances in the DB fleet of the 1970s and 80s.
For the covering of the Rheingold trains and the Rheinpfeil Group, which was converted to locomotive-covered sets, the DB put six E 10.1 (E 10 1239–1244) into service in May 1962 with special bogies designed for 160 km/h from Henschel. When the E 10 1265–1270, which was actually intended for these bogies, were available in the autumn of 1962, the E 10 1239–1244 were dismantled into the normal version and the E 10 1265–1270 took over these Nobel services, together with the E 10 1308–1312 delivered shortly thereafter. At the end of the 1960s, the last series of the E 10.12 was the 112 485–504, which was supplied with Krupp bogies designed for 160 km/h.
In November 1994, the 114 504 (ex 112 504) in 110 504 was numbered and was in use in local transport in the Stuttgart area. For railway fans, the locomotive was a particularly often photographed draught horse due to its special paintwork.
