One of the legendary TEE trains celebrated a spectacular comeback in the summer of 1990: Rented from the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a ten-part set including a reserve drive head, it ran in the sign of the close reunification of both German states from 1 August to 29. September as IC “Max Liebermann” in the planned service between Hamburg and Berlin following in the footsteps of an equally legendary predecessor. Already in the 1930s, the DRG had set up a high-speed railcar connection between these two cities with the “Flying Hamburger”.
