SNCF diesel railcar X 3997 “Picasso”
grey and orange livery
Built by ANF, railcar X 3997 had a long service life in various depots in France, beginning in 1958. In 1974, it was converted into a laboratory car for monitoring track and signaling systems, a task that would define its primary function. Its appearance changed over the decades, and it wore green and cream liveries, followed by grey and orange. Besides its signaling equipment, it was later also equipped for measuring track-ballast resistance and for the certification of rolling stock. After being made available to various associations, its life ended in 2014 at the scrapyard in Culoz.
