    The Bavarian Zugspitzbahn of the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG is beside the Wendelsteinbahn one of the oldest mountain railways in Germany. The route leads directly from Garmisch Partenkirchen to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. The route starts with the valley railway between Garmisch Partenkirchen and Grainau, from there the steep descent to the Zugspitze over into a cog railway.
