Prototype: The EMD (Electro Motive) class 77 was produced as a diesel locomotive with an electric power transmission. The Class 77 is now used virtually throughout Europe for freight trains, mainly by private railway companies, such as HGK / Cargo Rhine in Germany. Locomotives operate in Germany, the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Romania.
As of January 1, 2009 EMD released a low-emissions version called JT42CWRM or Class 77 with a nearly unchanged performance profile. The Class 77 obtained additional installations and an additional weight of nearly 5000 kg, which was partially offset by a reduced tank volume. The low-noise and low-pollutant type have larger fan blinds and an additional fifth door due to the partial loss of a side passage.
