In the 1950s, various VW T1 models were built for rail transport. This model utilized the technology of the standard T1 series, but underwent various railway-specific modifications at the Donauwörth Wagon and Machine Works and the Michael Beilhack Machine Factory.

The model is equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder and features various light and sound functions. Headlights, taillights, and interior lighting are digitally switchable. It is also equipped with an energy storage unit.
