Class 218 Diesel Locomotive with City-Bahn Coaches and BDnrzf 784.1 Control Car – Era IV
Prototype
This set depicts a classic DB City-Bahn push-pull train as used on the Cologne–Gummersbach route in the mid-1980s. The consist is headed by Class 218 diesel locomotive 218 140-2 in the distinctive pure orange and pebble gray City-Bahn livery, as operated from 1985/1986 onward.
The train includes Silberling n-coaches and a BDnrzf 784.1 control car with Karlsruhe-style cab, luggage compartment, and 2nd-class seating, allowing authentic push-pull operation without turning the locomotive.

All vehicles wear the City-Bahn orange/light gray paint scheme with printed Cologne–Gummersbach destination signs.
Model – Locomotive
The Class 218 model features a digital sound decoder, high-efficiency motor with flywheel, and drive to all four axles with traction tires. Lighting includes directional headlights and red marker lights, independently switchable headlights, cab lighting, and engine room lighting. Warm white and red LEDs with energy storage ensure reliable operation. The metal chassis and body provide smooth running and strong pulling power.

Model – Control Car
The BDnrzf 784.1 control car accurately reproduces the Karlsruhe cab and luggage area, with detailed bogies and underframe. A function decoder controls headlights or marker lights, cab lighting, passenger lighting, and luggage compartment lighting. LEDs and a buffer capacitor ensure stable illumination.
Model – Passenger Coaches
The City-Bahn coaches feature detailed underbodies, disc-brake bogies, factory-installed LED interior lighting, buffer capacitors, and current-conducting close couplings. Lighting is synchronized throughout the train, and destination signs are printed. Separately applied details include toilet downpipes and shunting steps.
