The painting adorning this carriage depicts a classic scene of a major city train station from that era! And there it is again, the largest steam locomotive series ever built in Austria – the homeland of the painter Josef Danilowatz, creator of this and many other Märklin catalog cover paintings – the BBÖ express steam locomotive of the 214 series. This locomotive, which has never appeared as a model in the Märklin range to this day, was first featured on the cover painting of the 1939 Märklin catalog (item 45909). Perhaps, who knows, one day this Austrian steam locomotive star will be honored with a Märklin model... In the painting, the 214 is accelerating a high-quality express train out of the main city station. On the adjacent track, a three-car "Cologne"-type high-speed railcar is attempting to overtake it and will likely manage this with ease due to its significantly lighter train weight. On the far left, a Class 62 steam locomotive, operating as a "Lz" ( locomotive train , a single locomotive without carriages), identifiable by its red taillight, is heading towards the imposing station hall and will soon pass under the signal box. What train will it haul next, or is its return to the nearby locomotive depot imminent? Let your imagination run wild with this possible story...
