    The deduced from the 24er Class 64 was the smallest locomotive with the unit type. Between 1928 and 1940, a total of 95 specimens were put into service. The class 24 could carry twice as much coal and was therefore particularly well suited for use on long side roads with hubs at the turning stations compared with the 64 series. They knew not only in the North German Plain service, but also proved itself in low mountains, such as the Black Forest, in the Bavarian Forest and the Hessian mountains.

    The use of the 42 came into the existence of the German Federal Railroad machines ended in May 1966, the z-position of 24 067.
