In East Europe the JZ Slowenian State Railways, CSD Czechoslovakian Railways, CFR Romanian State Railways, MAV Hungarian State Railways and PKP Polish State railways also purchased these incredible locomotives. Two hundred and thirteen were produced in a varity of versions, some with low pressure side pistons and others with two-sided pistons, they even produced several experimental versions. The Class 80s were produced by several locomotive manufactures, amoung them were StEG, Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf and Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik. The Class 80 locomotives were consider one of the best locomotives for their time, they were even more popular than the Prussian G10. During WWII the German Reichsbahn renumbered all the Austrian locomotives, the class 80s became the BR57.4. After the war the ÖBB Austrian Federal Railways kept them as class 57s.
