Product Features and Details
New for 2026: Between 1946 and 1989, the diesel-electric locomotives of the 500 series shaped the daily operations of the Dutch State Railways (NS).
A total of 45 locomotives were in service – reliable, powerful, and unmistakable. The first ten (Nos. 501–510) arrived in the Netherlands via the British War Department immediately after the Second World War. The distinctive gray three-axle locomotives quickly became indispensable helpers in shunting operations – especially at major stations such as Utrecht, Zwolle, and Rotterdam Feijenoord.
Thanks to their great reliability, the NS soon increased their fleet: 35 more locomotives (Nos. 511–545) followed, initially in classic olive green, and from the 1970s onward in the modern yellow-gray livery.
