DB Class 215 Diesel Locomotive with PIKO TrainSound onboard
New for 2026: Versatile Strength on Main and Branch Lines – The Class 215
The Class 215 is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive of the German Federal Railway (Deutsche Bundesbahn), built between 1968 and 1971 for passenger and freight service. Based on the proven V 160 platform, it impresses with its flexibility and reliability on main and branch lines. Equipped with through-boilers for steam heating of passenger cars and an auxiliary diesel engine for battery charging, the Class 215 proved its worth in all train categories – from the Eifel region to the Lower Rhine and Lake Constance. With exhaust stacks for air-conditioned cars and the option to later convert to the Class 218, it demonstrates both technical foresight and a focus on passenger comfort. After more than 30 years of service and the conversion of some locomotives to the Class 225, the Class 215 remains a symbol of versatility, efficiency, and reliability in German rail transport.
