Prototype: In addition to the silver coins, the German Federal Railroad ordered a larger number of control cars, which differ from the 2nd class cars with additional windows and a luggage compartment. In other series, pure control cars were ordered, which now had a regular driver's cab. The head shape of this control car is colloquially referred to as the “Karlsruhe headâ€, corresponding to the repair shop responsible for the conversion. Since these control cars were no longer equipped up to date in the 1990s and the demand for such vehicles increased due to the increased use of push-pull trains, a new car was developed by RAW Wittenberge. It has the modular DB standard driver's cab of the BR 111 and is called " Wittenberger head â€. The driver's cab has side doors and a glazed rear wall that allows the passenger a view of the route. Technically, the operation with electric and diesel locomotives is possible, due to the side-selective door control, the control cars were also used in combination with double-deck cars.
