Novelty 2026: Electric Locomotive BR 243 of the DR for TT Model Railways, Era IV
With increasing power plant capacities and the oil crisis as a catalyst, the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) accelerated the electrification of its network and required a universally deployable locomotive. After commissioning LEW ""Hans Beimler"" Hennigsdorf, the sole electric locomotive manufacturer in the GDR, the prototype 212 001-2 was presented at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1982. Due to its unique livery, it is also called the ""White Lady."" From 1984, the locomotives of series 243, intended for passenger and medium-duty freight services, were delivered in series. At its peak, the DR fleet comprised 640 units. After reunification, they were gradually reclassified as series 143. By the founding of DB AG in 1994, all units had been reclassified and were in operation nationwide. With the introduction of the further developed series 112.1, whose top speed is 160 km/h, and the new organizational structure, the BR 143 locomotives, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h, were used only for local traffic. The TT-scale model impresses with prototypical shaping, fine roof details with metal pantographs, and modern LED technology. Thanks to reliable running characteristics and simple digital retrofitting, the BR 243 is an ideal addition to realistic TT layouts of Era IV.
