New for 2021: Universal locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Ep. IV burgundy paint.
In the course of the oil price crisis, a universal concept for the electrification of the route network of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was created
searched. As the only electric locomotive manufacturer in the GDR, the VEB Lokomotivbau Electronic Works "Hans Beimler"
Hennigsdorf with the production of four-axle locomotives for passenger and medium-duty freight train services
instructed.
Speeds of up to 140 km / h were tested. The construction was designed for a maximum of 160 km / h. In favor of
Pulling power, the speed was reduced to 120 km / h, which was the maximum speed of the rail network at that time
corresponded. At its peak, the DR fleet consisted of 640 locomotives. With the founding of the Germans
Bundesbahn AG, the locomotives were continued as the 143 series. It was now used nationwide. After the reunification, the 112 series was developed as the successor model. Now the top speed was 160 km / h
realized. With its low top speed, the former BR 243 is increasingly falling victim to scrapping.
The last copies will probably be retired in 2021.
