Product Features and Details
Prototype: The DB AG took delivery of 196 duplex "Desiro" railcars from Siemans Duewag Schienenfahrzeuge GmbH. These fully air-conditioned coaches for regional trains have passenger-friendly low level entrance steps and a modular interior design. Of the total of 123 seats 12 are in the first class. The outer bogies are each driven by a six cylinder diesel engine via a five speed automatic gearbox w/ intergrated retarders. The drive units each produce 275kW, fulfill the Euro 2 emission standards and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 25 seconds with 68.2 tons of weight. The light construction (aluminium shell) reduces the operating costs and exhaust emissions. The middle ends of the coaches articulate, resting on a single bogie producing an axle pattern of B'(2)B'. The private railways e.g. the Connex & Vogtland railways have meanwhile also put the Desiro into service in a variety of liveries.
