The prototype:
The luxuriously equipped train sets of the Metropolitan Express Train (MET) operated on the Cologne – Hamburg route between 1999 and 2004.
The push-pull trains were hauled by one of four locomotives of the 101 series, specially converted for this purpose. Unlike other DB AG passenger trains, the Metropolitan did not have separate classes. Instead, the cars were divided into different seating areas (2x Silence, 3x Office and 2x Club cars).
All carriages were significantly superior in level to the then-current 1st class and featured wooden paneling, leather seats and brushed stainless steel ceiling panels.
