Product Features and Details
For the steeps of the Royal Württemberg State Railways, particularly for operation over the Geislinger increase, you needed a powerful freight locomotive, which the 16-ton axle load could not handle. Encouraged by the good experiences in Austria, with the number 100, Württemberg asked for the construction of a six-coupled freight train locomotive, which could unite all the demands of low-axle load at high tension in itself. By the year 1924, the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen built 44 class K locomotives. These met all the expectations placed on it, were very thrifty and were on their appearance the most powerful freight locomotives in Europe. After the electrification of the Geislinger increase the locomotives had lost one of the most important applications. At the beginning of the war Karawanken took all 44 locomotives to the Alpine passes of the Semmering in which they were stretched to the limit of their capabilities. After 1945, some machines made their way to Yugoslavia, Hungary and the Soviet Union. The last K was retired in 1957 in Austria. A review of the development of freight locomotives in Württemberg completes the book. Size: 210 x 297 mm 160 pages with over 300 illustrations The Lokrundschau writes in July 2008: "Author and publisher have accessible text and photo material used everything to K is a fitting monument to share the Wurttemberg. This is gelunden and closes a further gap of the steam engine documentation in Germany. "
