In the second half of the 19th century, the K.W.St.E. was considered one of the most modern railways in Europe in every respect. The decision to use the American system of "bogie intercommunications carriages" was only used by a few railways in Europe at the time. The high point and at the same time the conclusion of this development were the Württemberg express train carriages in the form in which they were built by the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen from 1909 onwards. The standardization and strict standardization of the components were the most important features of these cars. The main routes for the Württemberg express train cars were the Stuttgart-Zurich and Friedrichshafen-Cologne routes, and for a while also Stuttgart-Nancy. As through coaches, they traveled throughout Germany and half of Europe.
