Prototype: Austrian class 5042 diesel rail cars. Between 1934 and 1936 the Austrian State Railways (BBO) purchased large diesel railcars of the series VT 42 which were based on the design of the diesel railcars of the series VT41. The vehicles had powerful motors achieving (210 hp) and reached a top speed of 110 km / h. After the war, the ÖBB used the railcars and re-classified them as the class 5042s. The railcars were used in express service and passenger service throughout Austria. In the 1950’s and 60’s as main lines were getting electrified the 5042 railcars were relocated to branch line service in Lower Austria.
Model: The Roco 5042 railcar is a highly detail model, the roof, interior and under carriage detail is simply remarkable. Model is equipped with a 5 pole can motor with flywheels, buffer capacitor, LED directional lighting, full interior fittings and interior illumination.
