In July 1977, the shunting locomotive (called Locotracteur in France) Y 8001 rolled out of the plant of the company Moyse as the first representative of a 525-unit series for the shunting tasks in the stations, shunting stations, construction sites and workshops of the SNCF. Stronger and longer than its predecessors, these locomotives could also replace certain locomotives for the delivery of light freight trains on the route.
The Y 8000 received a paint based on the BB 63500 in the dominant orange supplemented by brown and white. In this painting, most of them have gone through their careers with all consecutive logos of the SNCF to the current “Carmillon”. However, some were also repainted for the appropriate activities to which they were assigned: Fret, Infra or even TER.
The model can only be operated to a limited extent with analogue driving devices.
