The CC 72000 was considered the most powerful diesel locomotive of the SNCF in its rail debut in 1967. With its diesel-electric drive, the series was suitable for both high speeds and for transporting heavy loads. For more than 40 years, SNCF used the locomotives before express trains – for example between Lyon and Marseille or Paris and Basel – and in front of heavy freight trains.
