The design of these locomotives, with their so-called “nez cassé” (broken nose), was created by the Frenchman Paul Arzens. Several of these locomotives featured special buffers for hauling "Talgo III RD" trains, which were capable of changing tracks. The buffer bodies on these engines were painted red.
