The E 41 series (from 1968: 141) locomotives were first delivered to the Deutsche Bundesbahn in 1956 for light and mixed service on main lines with a top speed of 120 km/h and a continuous output of 2,310 kW. They were the only series in the standard locomotive program to be equipped with a switchgear on the low-voltage side of the transformer. The switchgear produced a characteristic noise, which, along with the large jumps in tractive effort, led to the nickname "Knallfrosch" (Firecracker). The 141 152 was repainted very soon after the oriental red locomotive color scheme came into force in November 1987 and retained this livery until its decommissioning at the end of 2002.
