With the merger of Dutch freight transport with the German Railion Group, DB AG gained access to some of the NS Class 1600 electric locomotives. In 2012, ten locomotives were repainted in traffic red as part of maintenance. At the initiative of some locomotive drivers, the last three locomotives were decorated with farewell messages at the end of their service with DB coachgo NL in 2020.
