Roco 7510092 – Class 155 219-9 Electric Locomotive (MAED), Era VI, DC Sound | HO Scale | Special Edition “20 Years w13plus”
Celebrate 20 years of w13plus with this exclusive HO scale edition of a true East German classic—the Class 155 219-9 electric locomotive, now operated by MAED Eisenbahndienstleistungen. This special edition marks the anniversary “20 Jahre w13plus – 2003–2023” and is planned for delivery in the third quarter of 2024.
Originally planned with Gützold, this project was re-launched with Roco after delays in delivery and uncertainty. Roco has now taken over production, delivering the model with their signature quality and precision.
?? Prototype Background
The 155 219-9 is part of the iconic East German BR 250 series, nicknamed the “Strom-Container” ("electricity container") due to its utilitarian design. Built from 1977 to 1984 by LEW Hennigsdorf, a total of 270 locomotives were delivered. These 6-axle universal locomotives were engineered for both high-quality passenger service and heavy freight.
After German reunification, many units were taken over by DBAG and various private operators. Unit 155 219-9, still in regular service, now belongs to MAED and is among the last of its kind in operation.
The locomotive's current livery—created in 2020 at the DB maintenance works in Dessau—is a visual tribute to German railway history. Cab 1 is painted in classic DR bordeaux red, evoking the DDR era, while Cab 2 and the body sides wear modern DBAG colors with a white front panel. This “two-faced” design symbolizes the transition from Epoch IV to Epoch V, and MAED has stated it will keep this livery in service for at least 8 years—making this model a true collector’s item and a piece of living railway history.
