After the Second World War, the former legends of the DRG were mostly in a shockingly poor condition - especially on what concerns the streamlined fairing. After the fairing removal and reconditioning, class 01.10 formed an essential pillar in high-quality express train traffic. During various conversions or modernisations, but above all the necessary mounting of new boilers, 34 locomotives were converted to main oil firing towards the 1950s.
The by then more powerful locomotives, could therefore be expected to cope with long distances of up to 700 km. In 1968, the 01.10s were re-designated 011 (coal firing) and 012 (oil firing). The last 140 km/h fast and 1,818 kW oil-fired locomotives were not decommissioned until 1975 in Rheine.
