After the war 44 locomotives class E 94 of the DRG had their base in Austria. In 1952 the ÖBB bought three more locomotives of this type. The class designation E 94 was changed to 1020 in 1954. The class 1020 locomotive hauled goods trains and also was used for steep ramp services all over Austria for more than five centuries. The 1020 044 is one of the few locomotives that received the Valousek design with traffic red locomotive body, agate grey belt and umber grey chassis and roof.
