Ready-made. The original of this bronze statue, created by Gerhard Marcks, stands next to the Bremen Town Hall. It is the Bremen landmark and part of the city coat of arms. In 1953, Gerhard Marcks, one of the most important German sculptors of his generation, created this memorial, which soon became a crowd puller and the secret symbol of the city of Bremen. Today, a visit to the statue is missing in any tourist sightseeing program. It is said that when one touches the forelegs of the donkey, a wish comes true. The statue is a listed building.
