Chicago-Munich (or Frankfurt)
One hour before landing they will serve breakfast. After checking through immigration and customs you will board your train to Bamberg. After checking into the hotel the afternoon is free for your own activities. Bamberg is part of the UNESCO world heritage and you can explore many sights. We will meet for dinner at 7:30 and probably will call it a night after that.
The Toy Fair is surely the highlight of our tour. For any individual that likes toys, trains, Christmas ornaments or any hobby related products this fair is a must. Visiting the Toy Fair is a rare opportunity, because it is not open to the public; our guests are allowed to visit the fair because we get them in as employees. The fair is a treat for our eyes. The manufactures’ booths are incredible with all the new products, all the layouts and dioramas – we will be like kids in a candy store.
We are returning to Nuremberg, because this gives you the opportunity to do different things. You can go back to the ToyFair, you can visit the famous transportation museum or just do your sightseeing through Nuremberg.
You know us, there is no ToyFair tour without a narrow-gauge steam ride. Our bus will pick us up at the hotel and bring us to Cranzahl. There we will get on our train to Oberwiesenthal. The train must climb over 250 meters on a stretch of only 17 Kilometers. Oberwiesenthal is a spa and winter sport destination. It is also famous for their wooden Christmas toys.
Well, our days in Bavaria are over and today we will head to Hamburg. We will board our ICE, which will bring us to Hamburg within 5 hours. After we settle in our new hotel, we give you the rest of the day off to relax or do as you wish.
We will use our first day in Hamburg for sightseeing. All the important attractions will be on this route, like the Michel’s Church, the Red Town Hall, the Elbe Tunnel and so on. This will be also a highlight. We are able to get you in the factory where they assemble even the Airbus 380. It is the world’s largest passenger airliner, a double-deck, wide -body, four engine airplane. This is very interesting to us, because you will not see this technical marvel in the US, because our airports are not equipped to handle these big machines.
This is my real highlight on our trip. You might have been before at this fabulous layout but if you haven’t been there in the last few years you missed the new airport and the Italy part. The airport was planned to open already in 2008 but because those guys are such perfectionists it took them to open up this segment till May 2011. You have to spend the whole day to see everything. We will also arrange a tour behind the scenes to show you all the technology which goes into a project like this.
To the coast we go. We take a special train car from Hamburg to the shores of the North Sea. This is the last special service of the German railroad, where they couple 2 cars with this specific destination to a regular Intercity train. In Niebüll the train service is taken over by the privately owned Norddeutsche Eisenbahngesellschaft. This train brings us all the way to the North Sea. From there you could take a ferry to some German islands or even Denmark.
Like all good things, this tour will come to an end today. Breakfast is early in the morning with hotel check out to follow. We will transfer to Hamburg Airport and fly back home.
