Prototype: Beginning in 1937 the Wehrmacht acquired a series of 8-wheeled armored cars known as Schwerer Panzerspähwagen, or heavy armored reconnaissance vehicles. After experience with 4-wheeled and 6-wheeled armored cars, it was determined that an 8-wheeled vehicle would have better off-road capabilities. These vehicles had two drivers with wheels and independent steering at the front and the back, giving them a high degree of maneuverability. The larger chassis was able to accommodate a larger V8 engine and these armored cars could achieve a maximum road speed of 53 mph. Armor protection was deemed sufficient for defending the car’s crew against small arms fire. The Sd Kfz 233 8-Rad was a 231 8-Rad with a fixed open turret mounting a short barrelled 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 gun. It was intended as a high-speed infantry support gun and 119 were produced between 1942 and 1943.
PLEASE NOTE: These models are all handmade and painted which makes every one unique. This means the paint patterns may vary a little and the detail parts like sandbags, turret tracks, antennas, etc. may also be arranged differently. This was also the case in real life. These models are very prototypical.
