In 1982, RhB put the three control cars BDt 1721-1723 into service at the end of the procurement of the unit wagons EW II. Initially, they could only be used with the railcars ABe 4/4 501-504, later also with the modernized Ge 4/4 I - they were mostly used in the Engadine or between Davos and Filisur. Mid-90s, the front doors were closed at the driver's cabs; against 2006 received the BDt 1723 rectangular headlights.
In 2012-13 they were subjected to a fundamental modernization, in which they received, in addition to a new front similar to the control car "NEVA Retica" modern doors and, inter alia, a brake systems for Vereina car trains.
