Information about the model
Behind the product name TRAXX 3 from Bombardier Transportation lies the further development of the well-known TRAXX 2 locomotives of the 146 and 185 series. The new series includes the 147 for passenger and long-distance transport, and the 187 for freight transport. In addition to the redesigned front, which now consists largely of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) components, customers can optionally order a last-mile module for the TRAXX 3 platform. This allows the electric locomotives to operate independently on short sections of track or for shunting operations using either a diesel engine or a battery. Following its presentation in 2011, the first test runs with the new TRAXX 3 took place. Thanks to numerous smaller and several large orders, such as a framework agreement for 450 units with Deutsche Bahn AG, well over 200 locomotives of the TRAXX 3 platform have been delivered to customers and are in operation throughout Europe.
