The compartment coaches, which were made fit for a further period of use, were often simplified. In the interior, a continuous corridor was created and doors in the side walls were then locked in numerous coaches. The reason for this was the lack of replacement parts for the closing mechanism. In the same way, the continuous running boards also disappeared and only steps remained under the still existent doors. These conversions facilitated upkeep, but made entry and exit of passengers more difficult. Nevertheless, coaches with all doors and continuous running boards also remained in use until the end.
